Air
freight is suited to small parcels that need to be
moved quickly. Air freight is based on kilograms and
is calculated by kg or by volumetric weight, which
is calculated in the following way:
Length x breadth x height (in cm’s) divided by 6000
= volumetric kg’s
There are 3 types of air freight:
1. Direct air freight: This applies to cargo that is
put on an aeroplane and the client is responsible
for the clearance of the cargo at the destination.
2. Courier air freight: A courier company collects
and delivers the cargo door to door
3. Parcel air freight: A parcel is handed in at the
Post Office and air freighted to and from South
Africa. This takes a little longer, but is the
cheapest form of air freight.
